Scotland could be drenched by a 700-mile wall of rain next week, as new weather maps indicate wet and unsettled conditions will sweep across the country following hopes of another spell of hot weather.
Rain Band on August 4
While parts of the UK are preparing for the possibility of a fourth heatwave of the year, WXCHARTS maps show heavy rain moving across much of Britain on August 4, affecting almost every part of Scotland. The maps depict rain stretching from Shetland and Caithness in the north to Devon in southwest England, creating a vast band of wet weather expected to move eastwards around midday.
Areas forecast to see rain include Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll, Ayrshire, Banffshire, Buteshire, Caithness, Clackmannanshire, Cromartyshire, Dumfriesshire, Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, Fife, Inverness-shire, Kincardineshire, Kinross-shire, Kirkcudbrightshire, Lanarkshire, Midlothian, Moray, Nairnshire, Orkney, Peeblesshire, Perthshire, Renfrewshire, Ross-shire, Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire, Shetland, Stirlingshire, Sutherland, and West Lothian.
Met Office Outlook
The forecast comes as temperatures are expected to climb in parts of the UK over the coming days, although forecasters say conditions are likely to become increasingly changeable as August begins. The Met Office's long-range forecast for August 1 to 10 states: "Mostly dry away from the north and northwest initially, where scattered showers are expected. There is a small chance that some other western parts could see some rain by the end of the weekend. Temperatures ranging from around average in the northwest to warm in the southeast, perhaps becoming very warm in the southeast through the weekend."
"It will probably become more changeable thereafter, with potential for an area of low pressure to move close to or across the UK early in August. This could bring spells of heavy rain and perhaps some strong winds for a time. It may become more settled again towards the end of the first week of August."

According to WXCHARTS, much of Scotland could see rain on August 4 as the weather front tracks across the country before continuing into northern England. The maps suggest widespread showers from the Highlands and Islands to the Central Belt and the Borders. As with all long-range forecasts, the exact timing and intensity of any rain may change, with updated forecasts expected closer to the date.
