After a scorching week across the UK, many regions, including Merseyside, are set to see some downpours after a dry spell. The Met Office said we'll see some "much needed" rain after extreme heat has swept across the country this week.
Extreme Heat Subsides
Temperatures peaked at 38.1C in London on Thursday (August 13), making it the fifth hottest day on record for the UK. However, many people will be pleased to know the extreme heat will not last throughout the weekend. Over the next few days, temperatures will freshen, with some rain also forecast early next week.
Met Office deputy chief forecaster, Steven Keates, said: "Many people are desperate for some rain to alleviate the impacts of the prolonged dry spell. There is a chance of some thunderstorms developing in central and southeastern parts of England later on Friday into Saturday, however these are very uncertain.
"A front moving south eastwards across the UK on Monday and Tuesday could bring northern areas some rain but amounts of rain in the south will be small at most and the majority will fall over Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Rain on the Way for Merseyside
"The next meaningful rain forecast for these very dry areas could be towards the end of next week as an area of low pressure influences our weather from the southwest. The detail on this will become clearer over the coming days, so stay up to date with the forecast."
In Merseyside, it'll be a largely dry weekend with some bright and sunny spells. But rain could sweep across the region next week.
According to BBC weather, some wet weather will arrive on Monday (August 17) night and into Tuesday (August 18). Showers will turn heavier later in the day.
The forecast said: "Monday will start largely dry and cloudy but it should become sunnier in the afternoon. Spells of rain may move in from the north-west by the end of the night.
"Breezy on Tuesday with variable cloud and showers, these turning heavy later in the evening."
More Normal Temperatures Next Week
Temperatures will feel more "normal" next week, compared to the sweltering conditions we've experienced over the last few days.
Looking ahead to next week, the Met Office said: "Into the start of next week frontal systems will likely approach or move across the UK from the Atlantic.
"These will bring rain to many parts of the UK, although any heavy rain will probably be across high ground in the northwest. Temperatures will likely be near normal or slightly above.
"Later in the period, high pressure will probably have more of an influence with drier conditions developing for many. Some rain is still possible at times, particularly in the north, together with a risk of thunderstorms in the south. Temperatures will likely be above normal."
