On Tuesday, Phoenix Sky Harbour International Airport recorded a staggering high of 47.2°C (117°F), shattering previous records and inching dangerously close to the city's all-time record of 50°C (122°F) set in 1990.
"An Oppressive and Dangerous Situation"
Meteorologists from the NWS have characterised the weather event as exceptionally severe. The service's Phoenix office emphasised the critical nature of the event, stating, "The predominant weather concern will be the increasingly hot temperatures... An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for much of south-central Arizona through the upcoming weekend."
They further warned that this level of heat poses a major risk to public health, particularly for those without access to effective cooling or adequate hydration.

Medical professionals and health experts are urging extreme caution. The primary advice is to prioritise staying indoors in air-conditioned spaces during the peak afternoon hours. For those who must venture outside, recommendations include:
