Met Office names 8 areas facing heavy rain on Halloween

The Met Office has released its Halloween weather forecast, naming eight areas across Scotland and Northern Ireland that are expected to see rain on Saturday.

In a video shared on X, meteorologist Honor Chiswick explained that the weekend will remain largely dry for most of the UK, with fog and some sunshine, but Scotland and Northern Ireland are forecast to get rain.

Rain and Breezy Conditions in the Northwest

Chiswick said: "High pressure out towards the east. Low pressure tries to push its way into the northwest but it bumps up against the high pressure."

"So that means any rain associated with these weather fronts will linger for much of the day on Saturday across Scotland and Northern Ireland... Western areas of Scotland, some areas of Northern Ireland, could see quite a wet day through the course of Saturday. Quite breezy as well underneath the rain."

Foggy Start and Sunny Spells

The caption alongside the video read: "The weekend starts on a foggy note for many, although sunshine should break through as the day goes on. Halloween night will be wet in the northwest, but elsewhere it's largely dry."

The Met Office UK forecast for Saturday adds that the rain, particularly affecting the far northwest of Scotland, will move in a southerly direction throughout the day.

Areas Facing Rain on Halloween

It reads: "Areas of fog lingering across parts of England and Wales, though some sunny spells will develop. A little rain affecting the far northwest of Scotland, sinking southwards during the day."

Looking to the rest of the weekend, Sunday's forecast warns of similarly dry but foggy conditions for much of the country, which is expected to ease as the day goes on. It states: "Dry and settled for most, with variable cloud. Widely foggy across England and Wales at first on Sunday, with some fog slow to clear."

The areas facing rain on Halloween are: The Western Isles, Argyll, Highlands, Oban, County Londonderry, County Tyrone, County Fermanagh, and County Antrim.
