Met Office weather maps show when rain will hit Merseyside this week. After weeks of scorching conditions across the UK, there's been a dramatic change from the intense heat to milder weather. Temperatures remain in the low 20s throughout this week, with rain expected as we head into the weekend.

Rain expected after prolonged heatwave

Large parts of England and Wales experienced heatwave conditions throughout May, June and July. But a mixture of rain and sunny spells are expected for the first time in a few weeks.

The weather map shows the potential for rain on Friday at 8.45am. The patches of rain seem to disappear during the day, before large patches appear once again on Saturday morning.

Weekend forecast

The rain looks to continue overnight, before the patches turn into a deeper blue on Sunday morning at 10am. It looks to clear up into the late afternoon, with the map showing dry conditions at around 4pm.

Other areas across the north west set to be hit with rain include Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire.

In its outlook for the North West this weekend, the Met Office said: "It will stay mostly fine on Friday, though more in the way of cloud is expected. Over the weekend the weather looks more mixed with some rain developing at times."

Looking ahead

Looking further ahead, the forecast added: "A changeable period is likely overall, with many areas likely to see a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times. Northwestern areas are more likely to see the focus of rainfall, but southeastern areas should also see some showers."

Speaking about the possibility of another heatwave in August, the Met Office said: "Higher pressure is considered generally more likely than lower pressure through August. This means settled and dry weather will likely prevail, especially across the south."

"Some rain is still likely at times, especially across northern parts. Although many areas may see mainly dry weather for the much of the period, occasional summertime thunderstorms are possible on some days given the right ingredients."
