Weather maps published by the Met Office show the exact time more rain will arrive on Merseyside later today, with heavy downpours expected after weeks of blistering heat.
Temperatures exceeded 30C across the North West last week, but the forecaster said "fresher" weather will dominate into the coming days. It has been a gloomy start to the day after weeks of glorious sunshine.
Rain moving in from the northwest
In its outlook for today, the forecaster said: "Low cloud quickly lifting to bright spells and a scattering of showers. Cloud amounts increasing in the north as rain moves in from the northwest by late afternoon. Feeling pleasant where the sun holds on in the south. Maximum temperature 22 °C."
Weather maps show wet conditions to hit the North West this afternoon. Rainfall is expected at 2.30pm across Southport, Wigan and Warrington. However, the downpour is set to arrive on Merseyside later into the evening. By 10.30pm, dark blue patches of rain sweep across the region.
Wet weather continues into the week
The Met Office said: "Rain, heavy at times, will move southeastwards across the region through the evening. Staying cloudy overnight, with further spells of light rain and drizzle. Minimum temperature 14 °C."
Wet weather will continue into the week, with showers expected across the North West as well as "fresher" conditions. In its outlook for Tuesday, August 18, the Met Office said: "Brightening up, after a cloudy and damp start, with sunny spells and a scattering of showers. Showers heaviest and most frequent in the north. A cooler day for many. Maximum temperature 19 °C."
Cooler days ahead for Liverpool
