The Met Office has forecast up to 15mm of rain in the Scottish Highlands on Wednesday, with showery conditions expected across northern and northwestern Scotland. Elsewhere, dry weather is expected to dominate, with some brighter spells.
Rainfall Details
A spokesperson said: "Cloud and showery rain will continue to affect northern and northwestern Scotland, where some higher ground could receive around 10 to 15mm of rainfall during the day. However, even here there will be some drier and brighter interludes."
The forecast follows a similar pattern to Tuesday, when northern and northwestern Scotland saw outbreaks of rain and drizzle, in contrast to largely dry and sunny conditions elsewhere in the UK.
Temperature Outlook
Temperatures are expected to remain above average in many areas, with highs of 26C to 27C forecast across parts of the Midlands, eastern Wales and southern England. Northern Ireland and eastern Scotland are also expected to enjoy warm conditions, with temperatures generally reaching the low 20s Celsius.
Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir said: "This weather front here on Wednesday, again, will bring the prospect of a little showery rain. So again, good news for the garden, but you will see some wet weather, but it will never really amount to very much. Certainly, through the day, 10 to 15 millimetres across the uplands towards the northwest."
Ms Nasir added the rain would affect parts of northern Scotland during the morning but would break up at times. "Even where we're seeing that showery rain through the morning across the north, northeast, and northwest of Scotland, it will break up at times," she said.
Weekend Forecast
Looking further ahead, the Met Office meteorologist said more much-needed rain is expected to arrive over the weekend, particularly across central and northern areas. She said: "For most of the country where we're seeing parklands and gardens and farmland, certainly parched with the lack of rain, we are really looking for rain, and there will be some coming in as we head into the weekend, certainly for central and northern areas."
