Temperatures in Liverpool are set to exceed 30°C on Wednesday, August 12, making it one of the warmest weeks of the year. The Met Office has forecast a sharp spike in temperatures from the early 20s to the late 20s, with highs potentially surpassing 30°C in the middle of the week.
Heat alerts issued
The UK Health Security Agency has placed yellow heat health alerts for most of England until Tuesday evening, though the north west and north east have not been issued with a warning. The Met Office forecast for the North West says Monday will be dry with plenty of sunshine and light winds, with a maximum temperature of 23°C. The outlook for Tuesday to Thursday predicts largely dry conditions with sunny spells, turning increasingly hot and more humid later in the week.
Wildfire risk and solar eclipse
Recent heatwaves have led to a rise in wildfires, with the blaze on Conwy Mountain and Braichmelyn Forest in north Wales causing smoke to be smelled as far as Liverpool. Despite the risks, clear skies are expected to provide perfect viewing for a partial solar eclipse between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday, August 12. The eclipse will see 96% of the Sun covered by the Moon, the most impressive in decades, with the last of this scale occurring in 1999 and the next not until 2090.
