The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds covering much of the UK over the Easter bank holiday weekend. The warning is in effect from 6pm on Saturday 4 April until midday on Easter Sunday, lasting 18 hours.
The warning area includes the North West, North Wales, the North East, Northern Ireland and Scotland. In Greater Manchester, parts of Bolton and Wigan boroughs, along with much of Lancashire and Merseyside, are affected.
Forecasters warn of a spell of very strong winds that may cause damage and travel disruption. Gusts of up to 41mph are expected in Wigan on Saturday night, easing by Sunday afternoon. Greater Manchester is expected to avoid the worst of the weather.
A Met Office spokesperson said: 'A rapidly deepening area of low pressure is likely to move northeastwards close to or across northwestern parts of the UK during Saturday evening and night, clearing to the North Sea by Sunday.' Peak gusts of 50-60mph are possible widely, with 60-70mph in more exposed locations, and up to 80-90mph in exposed areas of Scotland.
