The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across parts of southern England, Wales, and the West Midlands on Thursday, with up to 70mm of rain expected. The warning, in place from 9am to the end of the day, warns that heavy rain falling on already saturated ground may lead to surface water flooding.
Residents are advised to prepare a flood plan and an emergency flood kit, as the Environment Agency has already issued three flood warnings (meaning flooding is expected) and 40 flood alerts (flooding possible) for England. The heavy rain follows Storm Goretti last week, which left the ground saturated.
A separate yellow warning for ice covers much of western and northern Scotland from 8pm Tuesday to 10am Wednesday, with icy surfaces expected where recent heavy snow has melted or where heavy rain has fallen. The Met Office forecasts further rain through the coming week, with temperatures around average in the south but cold in the north.
