Amanda Owen, star of Channel 5's 'Our Yorkshire Farm', has detailed the devastation caused by Storm Ciara at her family home, Ravenseat Farm. The 46-year-old shepherdess expressed fears as rising floodwaters and 100mph winds threatened the property and its livestock.
The nearby river swelled dangerously after one month's rain fell in a single night, leaving the ground saturated. Owen described the power of the water as 'not even safe' to be near, with floodwaters racing through the farmyard and carrying away a one-tonne trailer.
Husband Clive Owen, 66, and eldest son Reuben embarked on a rescue mission to move their flock of sheep to safer ground. The storm also damaged vital farming equipment essential for the farm's operation.
Despite the chaos, the family managed to secure the animals and retrieve the trailer from a nearby ditch with help from a local farmer. The episode highlighted the extreme weather challenges facing upland farmers in Yorkshire.
