A man was taken to hospital after being rescued from mudflats at low tide close to Cardiff Bay Barrage. Emergency services were called to the barrage at around 10.45pm on Wednesday, October 7, after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man near the water.
Emergency response and rescue operation
The crew at RNLI Penarth were called at around 11.04pm to assist after reports were received of multiple people in the water. Multiple crews from different agencies attended the scene to help a casualty.
The response operation involved Ambulance, RNLI, Coastguard, South Wales Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The casualties were located near the water, and due to the low state of tide a mud rescue was undertaken by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Hospital treatment and police statement
The man involved in the incident was detained and taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries and further support.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "At approximately 10.45pm on Wednesday, October 7, officers helped to safely detain a man who had walked out onto mudflats at low tide close to Cardiff Bay Barrage, after concerns were raised for his welfare. He was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries and further support."
