Two displays have been cancelled on the second day of the Southport Air Show. Organisers have announced the Tutor and Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers displays are "unable to fly today."
Affected displays and schedule
The displays had been due to take place at 1.19pm for Tutor, and 2.57pm for the Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers. So far, no other displays are affected, although the official Southport Air Show page says weather conditions are being continually monitored and any decisions regarding the flying programme will be made with safety in mind.
Today's show begins with a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at 12.30pm, which will see a spitfire take to the air. There will also be a chance to see a Typhoon, and The Red Arrows, who are due to fly at 3.30pm.
Weather warning and revised schedule
Earlier today the MetOffice issued a new 13-hour yellow weather warning for Merseyside. The national forecaster predicts heavy rain will begin to fall on Liverpool around midday, lasting into the early afternoon, with sunny spells and showers from 3pm. There is also the threat of thunder and lightning battering the region again, with the warning in place until midnight tonight, Sunday August 30.
The new timings for the Southport Air Show are as follows:
- 12.30pm - Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
- 12.51pm - The Starlings
- 1.19pm - Rich Goodwin Jet Pitts
- 1.33pm - A-26 Invader & P-51 Mustang
- 1.38pm - P-51 Mustang
- 1.48pm - A-26 Invader
- 1.59pm - Otto
There will be a short break at 2.07pm.
- 2.29pm - Gazelle Squadron
- 2.46pm - Hawk T1
- 3.15pm - Strikemaster
- 3.30pm - The Red Arrows
- 4pm - Typhoon
A spokesperson for the Air Show said: "Weather conditions are monitored throughout the day, and any decisions regarding the flying programme are made with safety as the top priority."
