An 80-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy have died after a light aircraft crashed north east of Drymen in Scotland. Police Scotland confirmed that emergency services attended the scene and both occupants were pronounced dead at the site.
Crash reported on Friday afternoon
The aircraft came down after getting into difficulty at around 4.45pm on Friday, 16 October, 2026. Officers received a report of the crash and dispatched rescue crews to the location, but the two victims could not be saved.
Their next of kin have been informed, according to a Police Scotland spokesperson.
Investigation underway
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been notified, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Following the crash, temporary airspace restrictions have been put in place over the Drymen area. These are likely to remain for some time to allow the AAIB to conduct its investigation.
Drone restrictions in place
The restrictions include a ban on drones. Police Scotland warned that it is a criminal offence to fly in restricted airspace, and urged people to check whether it is legal to fly in their area.
