Flights departing from airports across Scotland have been disrupted after a technical issue hit the UK's air traffic control system.
Air traffic control provider Nats said the problem was causing disruption to flight departures at airports across the UK.
Edinburgh Airport warning
Edinburgh Airport warned passengers that the issue affecting Nats “may impact operations”.
In a post on X, the airport said: “We are aware of a technical issue affecting @NATS which may impact operations.
“We are working closely with air traffic control, airlines and other partners, and hope @NATS can resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
Advice for passengers
Passengers travelling from Scottish airports are being advised to check with their airline for the latest information before setting off.
Nats said: “We are investigating a technical issue which is causing some disruption to flight departures.
“Our engineers are on site and we will provide an update as soon as we can.
“We apologise for the delay this will cause to journeys, passengers should check with their airline on the status of their flight.
“We will provide updates on www.nats.aero and on X – @NATS.”
Airports affected across the UK
Heathrow Airport confirmed it was among the airports affected, although arriving flights were not initially impacted.
The airport said: “The air traffic control service Nats is experiencing a technical issue which is impacting departing flights at UK airports.
“Arriving flights are not currently impacted.
“We are supporting our local Nats team in their efforts to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
Birmingham Airport said the technical issue was affecting airspace in the south of the UK and was impacting a “significant number” of departing flights across the country.
Manchester Airport, Stansted Airport and East Midlands Airport have also been affected.
Jersey Airport said flights between the Channel Islands and the UK were impacted, while Belfast City Airport warned of “some disruption” to flights arriving and departing.
Nats provides air traffic control services to 15 UK airports. Passengers affected by the disruption are being urged to contact their airline directly for the latest flight information.
