An RNLI crew rescued a man and his dog from the sea at Silverknowes in Edinburgh on Saturday after the Bernese Mountain dog jumped over the seawall and plunged about four metres onto rocks below.
The crew from Kinghorn in Fife responded to the scene and were told that a member of the public had entered the water to reach the dog.
Rescue on the rocks
The crew found both the man and the dog on the rock armour at the base of the wall. They approached the casualties and put the bow of the lifeboat on the rocks to bring both onboard.
A spokesperson for the RNLI said: "We arrived to find the man and dog on the rock armour at the base of the wall. We were able to approach the casualties and put the bow of the lifeboat on the rocks and get both onboard."
Safe return to shore
Both were reported to be okay, with only a few scuffs from the rocks. They were taken to nearby steps and landed ashore.
The crew was then stood down to return to station to prepare the lifeboat for the next launch.
