Qatar Airways Crowned World's Best Full-Service Airline for 2026
Qatar Airways Named World's Best Full-Service Airline 2026

Qatar Airways Reclaims Top Spot in Global Airline Rankings for 2026

In a prestigious announcement, Qatar Airways has been awarded the title of the world's best full-service airline for 2026, according to the latest rankings from AirlineRatings.com. This marks a return to the top position after Korean Air held the crown in 2025. The aviation safety and product website revealed its annual "World's Best Airlines" awards, highlighting carriers that excel in service, safety, and passenger experience.

Criteria for Excellence in Full-Service Airlines

To qualify as a top full-service airline, carriers must meet stringent criteria set by AirlineRatings.com. This includes providing meals, an economy seat pitch of at least 31 inches, lie-flat business class beds, a seven-star safety rating, and a robust financial standing. These standards ensure that only the most comprehensive and reliable airlines make the list, offering travellers premium comfort and security.

Why Qatar Airways Stood Out in 2026

Qatar Airways impressed judges with several key features that set it apart from competitors. The airline was praised for its gate-to-gate Starlink wifi, which offers seamless connectivity throughout flights. Additionally, "thoughtful touches" in economy catering and amenity kits, along with spacious business-class seats, contributed to its top ranking. Sharon Petersen, CEO of AirlineRatings.com, commented, "It was a tight competition at the top, but Qatar's value proposition, combined with a superior economy product and award-winning business class, secured that top position once again."

Top 25 Full-Service Airlines and Other Categories

The ranking, compiled from traveller feedback and expert analysis, also featured other notable airlines in the top 25. Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, and STARLUX Airlines were highlighted for their exceptional passenger experiences. In the hybrid airline category, which includes carriers with mixed onboard services based on flight length, Lufthansa took first place, with British Airways ranking ninth. Petersen noted, "Lufthansa epitomises what we look for in the world's best hybrid airline. It offers a low-cost model on short-haul routes across Europe with buy-on-board catering, a variable seat pitch of 29 to 30 inches, complimentary streaming of in-flight entertainment via its FlyNet Wi-Fi portal, alongside bottled water and the airline's iconic branded chocolate."

Recognition for Low-Cost and Regional Carriers

In the budget sector, HK Express, a Hong Kong-based airline, won the World's Best Low Cost Carrier award for the first time. It was recognised for "consistently excellent" cabin crew and its onboard menu. Meanwhile, Porter Airlines, a Canadian carrier, was named the World's Best Regional Airline, commended for its strong focus on passenger comfort. These awards underscore the diversity and quality available across different airline models, from full-service to low-cost options.
