National Highways Limited has made an order to close part of the M53 motorway on the Wirral to allow resurfacing works to be carried out safely. The temporary prohibition will ban all traffic from the M53 westbound carriageway, from the exit slip road at J2a to the Moreton Road Bridge.
Overnight closures until October
The prohibition is expected to be in place overnight between 21:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 21 September 2026 and ending on Saturday 10 October 2026. However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights or until completed.
Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M53 Motorway and local roads will be well signed. The prohibition will not apply to emergency services, works, or traffic officer vehicles, and will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
