A passenger ferry capsized on Sunday afternoon shortly after departing from northern Cyprus, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. Coastguard boats and rescue helicopters have been deployed to pull survivors from the upturned vessel.
The boat went over around two kilometres north of the coast of Kyrenia as it was heading towards the Turkish port of Tasucu.

Turkish Cypriot coastguard boats and rescue helicopters have been scrambled, with video showing people being rescued from the vessel.

Turkish Cypriot Kyrenia mayor Murat Senkul confirmed that there were a total of 270 people on board the boat, including passengers and crew, and said that the situation was “serious”.
