A body has been found during the search for a missing British tourist on the Greek island of Kefalonia. The 55-year-old had been holidaying with his wife in Katelios before setting off on foot towards the wider Pastra area, Greek media reports.
Search operation launched
A major search operation involving police officers, firefighters, emergency workers and volunteers was launched, with drones also deployed as teams scoured difficult terrain. Searchers faced temperatures of up to 36C as they looked for the missing man across the island.
Discovery near Pastra
A trained rescue dog was reportedly given some of the tourist’s belongings to smell before leading searchers to a difficult mountainous area near Pastra, where a body was found. Local authorities have not yet formally confirmed whether the body is that of the missing 55-year-old.
Search called off
Searches in the area were reportedly called off following the discovery. The man’s relatives were in Kefalonia and remained in regular contact with search teams, according to local reports. The Mirror has contacted the Foreign Office for comment.
