A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia this afternoon, with tremors felt across several major cities.
The earthquake was recorded five kilometres east of San Jose del Palmar, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred at a depth of 107 kilometres, and a map from the US institute suggests it was felt as far away as Bogota.
Evacuations in Medellin
Social media reports indicate that buildings were evacuated in Medellin, one of the cities where the tremor was strongly felt. The extent of any damage or injuries is not yet known.
