The future of former Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho appears to have become clearer, with another permanent transfer reportedly on the horizon. Garnacho joined Aston Villa on loan in the summer, a deal that includes an obligation to make the move permanent if certain conditions are met.
Staff briefed on permanent move
According to The Athletic, some members of staff at Villa were “surprised” by the club’s decision to sign Garnacho, with the club taking advantage of a market opportunity to bring the former United star to Villa Park. The report details that the conditions for making the loan permanent are “easily achievable”, more so than the 10 appearances Harvey Elliott needed to make last season.
It has also been reported that Villa staff have been briefed that there is an “extreme likelihood” that Garnacho will leave Chelsea on a permanent basis next summer to extend his time at the club.
Pre-season and meetings with Emery
The Telegraph has claimed that the former United forward has undergone a “mini pre-season” during the international break. It has also been reported that Garnacho has had one-on-one meetings with Villa boss Unai Emery to get up to speed ahead of the return of Premier League football.
Limited appearances so far
Garnacho has made only three appearances for Villa so far this season, all as a substitute in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has not featured in either of Villa’s last two Premier League matches before the international break, and was also an unused substitute in the Champions League clash against Club Brugge and the Carabao Cup third round tie against Coventry City.
United sold Garnacho to Chelsea in the summer of 2025 for around £40million, but around 12 months later the winger moved again. He scored 26 goals across 144 appearances during his time at United, including 11 in his final season at Old Trafford, and scored eight goals in 43 appearances during his debut season at Chelsea.
