On August 12, the UK will experience its largest solar eclipse since 1999, with more than 90% of the Sun's surface obscured by the Moon. The partial eclipse begins at 18:17 BST, reaches its maximum at 19:13 BST, and ends at 20:06 BST, shortly before sunset at 20:28 BST.
How to watch safely
Even with more than 90% of the Sun covered, looking directly at it remains dangerous. Astronomers urge viewers to protect their eyes using certified eclipse glasses, pinhole projectors, or specially adapted optical equipment.
Live streams and in-person viewing
The Royal Observatory Greenwich will air two YouTube streams from 18:10 BST: one featuring expert astronomer commentary, and a quiet uninterrupted feed running until the eclipse ends. Those who prefer to watch in person can do so from the Observatory's garden from 16:00 BST, where experts from the Flamsteed Astronomy Society will guide safe viewing.
