Bethesda game director Todd Howard has offered new details on the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls 6, confirming it will run on the upgraded Creation Engine 3. The revelation came during an interview with IGN, where Howard discussed the game alongside the upcoming Starfield update.
Howard stated that the transition to Creation Engine 3 is proceeding more smoothly than the shift to Creation Engine 2 for Starfield, which he admitted could have been managed better. He noted that early builds of Elder Scrolls 6 remain consistently playable, saying, “We're in a fortunate position where the builds of the game are really consistently working every day.”
While Howard remained tight-lipped about specific technological enhancements, he hinted at improvements beyond rendering. “There are things outside of the rendering that you would expect as it comes to data systems, how our worlds load, how they load content and present things of high detail close to the camera,” he explained. This could potentially lead to reduced loading times or even elimination of loading screens.
Howard also expressed regret over announcing Elder Scrolls 6 as early as Bethesda did, joking, “Just pretend we didn't announce it. Doesn't exist.” He elaborated that the announcement was not his preference. Despite the tease, a release date remains unconfirmed, with speculation pointing to 2027 at the earliest.
