Shirley Curry, the 89-year-old YouTube gamer known as 'Skyrim Grandma', has announced her retirement from uploading content related to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In a video posted Monday, she cited a lack of engagement from her predominantly young fanbase as a key reason for stepping away.
Curry explained that while she receives affectionate messages like 'Hi, Grandma. I love you, Grandma,' from younger viewers, she feels these do not provide the meaningful feedback she seeks. She noted that her older, regular followers who have been with her for nearly 15 years have been more interactive via email and comments.
'I will be leaving a vlog once in a while when I have something to talk about, you older ones,' Curry said, addressing her long-time fans. She added that at nearly 90 years old, she has grown bored with creating new storylines in Skyrim and is no longer having fun making the videos.
Curry has amassed over 1.3 million subscribers and uploaded more than 2,400 videos, primarily featuring her adventures in Skyrim, the fifth instalment of The Elder Scrolls series. Her retirement announcement comes as anticipation builds for the next game in the franchise, The Elder Scrolls VI, expected to release in 2026 or later.
Despite ceasing regular Skyrim content, Curry plans to occasionally post vlogs for her older followers. She expressed hope that these fans will continue to stay in touch as they have in the past.
