National Lottery Hit By Major Technical Glitch Causing Delays

The National Lottery is investigating after users reported issues accessing its website and app on Saturday, a day after a global IT outage caused widespread disruption. The glitch comes as a £44 million EuroMillions jackpot was up for grabs on Friday night.

In a statement on X, the National Lottery said: 'We are aware that some players are having issues accessing our website and app. Apologies for the inconvenience, our team are currently investigating the issue to find out what has happened.'

According to DownDetector, issues have been ongoing since around 9pm Friday, with more than 2,000 reports of the site not working. Users have been met with error messages reading: 'Our online services are temporarily unavailable. Sorry about that - we'll get you back in the game as soon as possible.'

The outage follows a flawed software update by American cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike that caused global disruption on Friday, affecting airports, train stations, businesses and the NHS. Crowdstrike CEO George Kurtz apologised, saying the issue was 'very quickly' identified and remediated.

Experts estimate the error, which hit Microsoft systems, could cost the global economy trillions. Meanwhile, disruption continued in the UK on Saturday, with long queues at Dover after flights were cancelled. Some 167 flights from UK airports were axed on Friday, with 171 inbound flights also cancelled.
