Blizzard Entertainment President Johanna Faries has said that 'everything is on the table' regarding potential film and TV adaptations of the company's intellectual properties, as the developer prepares to celebrate its 35th anniversary and the return of BlizzCon later this year.
In an interview, Faries discussed the upcoming BlizzCon, which will be held for the first time since 2023. She emphasised that the extra planning time has allowed teams to ensure a 'top-notch' experience for both on-site and virtual attendees, with a focus on celebrating the community and unveiling major announcements.
On the topic of AI, Faries noted that Blizzard has 'high calibre talent' and prioritises agility and community feedback to stay competitive in the live-service game space. She stressed the importance of being able to 'pivot as needed' and 'listen to the community'.
Regarding Diablo 4's future, Faries confirmed that new expansions are coming to Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal, and even Diablo 2. She described the upcoming content as part of Blizzard's 'secret sauce' of deep craft experience and innovation.
When asked about potential film or TV adaptations, Faries said Blizzard is having 'bold conversations across multiple IPs' but had nothing specific to confirm. She added that the company is taking its time to find the right partners to ensure any adaptations resonate with fans.
Faries also reflected on her two-year tenure as president, calling it an 'amazing ride' and expressing confidence in Blizzard's future, with BlizzCon and new game content set to showcase the company's creative direction.
