British Somalian YouTuber Chunkz has sparked controversy after stating he would disown his child if they left Islam. The 29-year-old influencer, whose real name is Amin Mohamed, made the remarks while appearing on the What's Your Mo? podcast.
Chunkz, who has 1.8 million YouTube subscribers, said: 'You can't do that one there. You know what I mean.' The comments have drawn backlash online, with critics accusing him of promoting intolerance.
The university dropout rose to fame through prank and challenge videos. He counts David Beckham and Maya Jama among his friends, and has co-hosted the MOBO Awards with Jama. In 2024, he was forced to deny romance rumours with Jama after they filmed an advert together.
Chunkz grew up on a council estate in Brent, London, and started his YouTube channel in 2015. He quit his financial maths course at London Metropolitan University in 2016 to focus on social media, calling it 'the scariest day of my life'. He has since appeared on BBC shows including The Wheel, Weakest Link and Blankety Blank.
He is part of the Beta Squad on YouTube and hosted ITV's cooking programme Bad Chefs. Chunkz won a MOBO for Best Media Personality in 2021.
