Instagram Launches 'Instants' for Disappearing Photos with Friends
Instagram Launches Instants for Disappearing Photos

Instagram has introduced a new feature called Instants, designed to allow users to share spontaneous and unfiltered photos with friends in a more private and ephemeral way. The feature aims to encourage more authentic sharing without the pressure of permanent posts or curated feeds.

How Instants Works

Instants photos disappear after being viewed by the recipient. They cannot be screenshotted, providing an added layer of privacy. However, these photos are saved in the user’s archive for up to a year, allowing users to revisit their own shared moments later. Users also have the option to reshare an Instant to their Stories, extending its visibility if desired.

Interaction and Limitations

Followers can react to Instants with emojis, reply with messages, or send an Instant in return, fostering a more dynamic and conversational experience. Notably, photos cannot be edited before sending, and they must be taken directly using Instagram’s in-app camera, ensuring that all Instants are raw and in the moment.

How to Access Instants

To use Instants, users can tap the mini photo stack icon located in the bottom-right corner of their Instagram inbox. This provides quick access to the feature, making it easy to capture and share fleeting moments with close friends.

This launch comes as Instagram continues to explore ways to enhance private sharing and reduce the pressure of permanent posting, following trends seen in other social media platforms that prioritize ephemeral content.
