Meta Services Hit by Global Outage: Users Locked Out of Instagram and Facebook

Thousands of users across the UK, US, and Spain reported being unable to access their Instagram and Facebook accounts on Tuesday, as a major outage hit Meta’s social media platforms.

DownDetector, a website that monitors technical outages, recorded a sharp spike in problem reports around 1pm GMT, with more than 4,000 issues logged for Facebook alone. The disruption also affected Instagram and Threads, with users locked out of their accounts on mobile apps and laptops.

Many Facebook users saw a message saying: “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly.” Instagram users were unable to post stories or reels, and some reported being unable to load their feeds.

The outage extended to WhatsApp, which also experienced issues. While reports have declined since the initial spike, Instagram users continue to face problems, according to DownDetector. Meta has not yet commented on the cause of the disruption.
