Alan Titchmarsh has voiced his strong dislike for robotic lawn mowers, describing them as a 'dark force' in gardening. The 73-year-old gardener and broadcaster expressed his frustration in BBC Gardeners' World magazine, saying his 'heart sank' when a friend proudly announced she had purchased one.
Titchmarsh, known for his traditional gardening methods, wrote that he finds solace in pushing his own mower and creating stripes on his lawn. He criticised the robotic mowers for their erratic movement and inability to cut grass evenly, noting that watching one in action 'would drive me nuts'.
He acknowledged that electric mowers are a 'great invention' but insisted that unless he can stand behind them while they work, he will continue to believe 'there are dark forces at work'. Titchmarsh's comments have sparked debate among gardening enthusiasts about the merits of modern technology versus traditional methods.
