A house on Juniper Street in Irvine, North Ayrshire, has been left covered in black soot after being deliberately set alight in the early hours of Thursday. The blaze broke out at around 4.30am on September 3, with ash and discarded items now covering the driveway of the property in the Annick Gardens estate.
Firefighters at scene for around seven hours
Emergency services rushed to the scene, with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews battling the blaze until around 11.15am. Photos from the scene show the house all but destroyed, with the fire taking hold of the garage and upstairs rooms. The garage roof looks ready to collapse, while the windows are charred from black smoke and soot.
The front door is missing, and the contents of the garage lie in a blackened heap, with various items strewn across the driveway. A burnt out mattress and flag can still be seen inside the garage.
Police treat fire as wilful
Officers are standing guard at the house while making door to door enquiries in the estate. No one is understood to have been hurt in the incident. Police Scotland are treating the fire as wilful, and an investigation has been launched.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.10am on Thursday, 3 September, 2026, we were called to a report of a fire at a property in Juniper Street, Irvine. Enquiries are ongoing and the fire is being treated as wilful.”
An SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.37am on Thursday, 3 September, to reports of fire on Juniper Street, Irvine. Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene, and firefighters worked to extinguish a fire affecting a house. There were no reported casualties and crews left at 11.15am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
