UK broadband provider iTalk Telecom has collapsed into administration after nearly two decades of trading. The Brighton-based firm, which operates as iTalk Affiliate Telecommunications Ltd, entered administration on 28 August, according to a notice published in The Gazette, the UK's official public record.
Andrew Pear and Richard Keley of Moorfields Advisory Limited have been appointed as administrators. Records held at Companies House reveal the company is currently subject to a voluntary arrangement and that its accounts are overdue. The firm entered into a voluntary arrangement in 2024, with subsequent filings confirming the arrangement remained in place.
What administration means
As Companies House explains, when a company enters administration, the process can be utilised to rescue a viable business that has become insolvent owing to cash-flow difficulties. It does not necessarily signal that the company will cease trading altogether, reports the Mirror.
Administration imposes a statutory moratorium – a "breathing space" – shielding the company from creditor enforcement action while plans are formulated to restructure its finances and, where feasible, salvage the business. This may involve selling the company to an unrelated third party.
Potential buyer in talks
Specialist outlet Thinkbroadband reports that UK-based holding company Telecom Acquisitions is a potential partner to absorb iTalk Telecom's customer base. According to the publication, Telecom Acquisitions is currently in talks with the administrators regarding its available options, with the aim of ensuring any transition to its services occurs without causing disruption to customers.
Nigel Barnett, CEO of Telecom Acquisitions, told the outlet: "This is a difficult situation, but we have assurances from the suppliers that no service should be affected in the short term. We are here to support Italk's customers and staff."
ITalk Telecom, Moorfields Advisory Limited and Telecom Acquisitions have been sought for comment.
