Misfits Boxing results could be overturned after judging controversy

Three results from Misfits Boxing's latest show could be changed after judging controversy. Joey Essex and Dapper Laughs fought to a draw in London on Saturday night, but many fans felt the comedian deserved to have his hand raised against the reality TV star.

There was also controversy in the co-main event, which saw Swarmz and Ambush draw over four rounds, while in the opening fight of the night, Carla Jade was an unpopular winner over Erika Night.

Boss confirms review

Misfits boss Mams Taylor expressed his surprise at the result of the main event before confirming three unnamed fights were under investigation. “I spoke to the commission at length,” he said. “Three fight results from last night are officially under review using the jury system. Any judge with a crazy scorecard should be suspended, in my opinion, but that’s an ongoing conversation.”

“If any result is overturned as a result of the jury system, of course, the deserving fighter will not get the moment of glory he/she deserves in the ring after the fight, and that sucks; however, this is the next best thing. Most importantly, whoever earned a win should be awarded that on their record. I applaud the commission for taking the steps to get this right. We will get this right!”

Fighters' reactions

Both Essex and Dapper felt they should have been awarded the victory, with Essex telling Mirror Fighting: "It was a good fight but I nicked the first three rounds and let him have the last one. From a judges point of view, he won the last one and I thought that, why did I let him have the last round? I should have stepped it up."

Dapper added: "I thought it was mine, I thought I rocked him enough. I got off some heavy shots and felt I boxed well. But I'm not going to take anything away from him; he punched a lot harder than I thought he was going to. Definitely do not underestimate Joey Essex."

"I thought he looked tidier than he did in his last fight and that stiff, straight jab and those straight shots... I was trying to look good, moving round him but I was wary of him. He caught me a couple of times but I felt like I got him rocked on his feet. He was holding on to me a couple of times. But I just hope I gave a good account of myself."
