Microsoft has issued a critical security update for all Windows users, urging them to restart their PCs immediately. The Patch Tuesday release is the largest in history, addressing a total of 206 vulnerabilities.
Massive Security Patch
The update includes fixes for 32 flaws rated as critical and three zero-day vulnerabilities that were publicly disclosed before patches were available. According to cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes, this is the biggest Patch Tuesday since the program began in 2003.
One of the zero-day flaws could allow attackers to gain full control of a compromised system, putting personal data at risk. Another could enable a hacker with physical access to bypass BitLocker Device Encryption and access encrypted data.
How to Install the Update
To protect your device, follow these steps:
- Open Settings
- Go to Windows Update
- Click 'Check for updates'
- If updates are found, they will download automatically
- Restart your PC when prompted
Once the update is installed, your system will be protected from potential attacks. Malwarebytes noted that while the vulnerabilities were publicly known, none have been actively exploited yet.
Microsoft introduced the monthly Patch Tuesday schedule after the Blaster worm caused widespread disruption in the early 2000s. This latest release underscores the ongoing importance of keeping systems up to date.
