BBC viewers erupted in frustration during England's World Cup clash against Mexico as the broadcaster's iPlayer service suffered widespread delays and intermittent dropouts. The match, delayed by an hour due to weather conditions, saw fans struggling to keep up with live action as streaming problems plagued coverage.
Fans Voice Anger on Social Media
Supporters took to social media to complain about the technical issues. One fan wrote on X: “Pubs r open n England scored im guessing? (iPlayer slow) cos the pub lot from down the road r screamingggggggggg.” Another said: “iPlayer 30 seconds behind everyone else.” A third asked: “iPlayer keeps dropping out for anyone else?”
A fourth added: “iPlayer keeps dropping out so I'm about 15 seconds behind.” A fifth queried: “Why is the iplayer app so far behind normal tv.” Another fan lamented: “My iPlayer is behind some neighbours/pub so getting it all ruined anyway.”
Match Delayed by Weather
The knockout fixture, with a quarter-final place at stake, was pushed back an hour from its original kick-off time due to adverse weather conditions. Once underway, the streaming issues compounded fan frustration, especially as England scored early in the match.
The BBC has not yet commented on the technical problems. Meanwhile, the match also saw a bust-up involving Alan Shearer, who reportedly said 'punches' were thrown after Jarell Quansah received a red card.
