The Ugreen DXP6800 Ultra is a high-performance network-attached storage (NAS) system aimed at creative professionals, small businesses and demanding home users. It houses six SATA hard drives, with RAID redundancy protecting data even if one drive fails.
This pro-grade machine requires a wired connection to your router and comes packed with an Intel 12th Gen 10 Core processor, 8GB of DDR5 RAM (expandable to 96GB), room for 208TB of storage, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB and HDMI ports, an SD card reader, and two M.2 slots.
Why Switch to a NAS?
Cloud subscriptions can add up to a hefty monthly sum, and users may worry about data safety or losing everything if a provider goes out of business. A NAS is essentially a large hard drive connected to home internet, providing access to files from anywhere, free after the initial device and drive costs.
Ugreen has been spearheading the NAS charge, and the DXP6800 Ultra is the biggest and most powerful NAS tested by this reviewer in the past year. The multi-bay design is particularly useful for anyone building a sizeable photo, video or document archive.
UGOS Pro Software Experience
Ugreen's UGOS Pro operating system offers a mix of simplicity for average users and power for enthusiasts, including the ability to run virtual machines. However, buyers accustomed to more established NAS platforms may want to compare its application ecosystem, backup options and administration tools before committing.
Out of the box, users get photo and music apps, a home theatre server for streaming videos from anywhere, and setup that's doable even for novices. Ugreen offers apps for mobile and desktop computers, or users can sign in through a web browser.
Verdict: Overkill for Most, Ideal for Pros
The Ugreen DXP6800 Ultra combines substantial storage capacity, a powerful Intel processor, and an impressive array of high-speed connections. For the average user, it's overkill, but there are smaller devices available for those new to NAS. For those needing speed and capacity, it's a solid choice, though pricey—Ugreen regularly offers deals that could bump the rating from four stars to five.
The Ugreen DXP6800 Ultra NAS is available for £1,269.99 via Amazon.
