Following the recent launch of a new season, developer NetEase has confirmed a significant forthcoming update for its popular online hero shooter, Marvel Rivals. This patch is designed to address a critical issue that has been negatively impacting the multiplayer experience for the gaming community.
Combat Behaviour Detection System
In an official communication via social media platform X, NetEase revealed plans to implement a sophisticated "combat behaviour detection system" within Marvel Rivals. This new technological framework will actively monitor player actions during online matches to distinguish between genuine participation and exploitative behaviour.
The primary target of this system is a practice known as AFK (Away From Keyboard) farming, where players join matches but remain stationary or inactive. These individuals exploit the game mechanics to accumulate hero proficiency points and improve their statistics without contributing to team objectives or engaging in combat.
Developer Statement on Exploitative Play
NetEase provided a detailed explanation of the problem, stating: "Recently, we’ve observed that certain players are manipulating matches by remaining idle and repeatedly farming stats to gain hero proficiency points. This conduct disrupts standard gameplay and severely compromises the match experience for other participants."
The developer emphasised that to counteract this, the planned detection system will identify such behaviour. Players confirmed to be engaging in these practices will be subject to a graduated penalty structure.
Potential Penalties for Violations
The consequences for those detected by the system could be severe, as outlined by NetEase:
- Initial warnings for minor infractions
- Short-term account suspensions
- Extended long-term suspensions
- Permanent account bans for repeated or egregious violations
As the developer clarified, persistent offenders face the possibility of long-term bans if the technology consistently identifies foul play during their gaming sessions.
New Cosmetic Content Arrives
Alongside these crucial gameplay improvements, NetEase also unveiled the next wave of cosmetic items scheduled for release within Marvel Rivals. Two vibrant new skins will become available for purchase in the in-game item shop.
The Disco Pop Luna Snow and Boogie Bolt Thor character skins will be featured from January 22nd until February 19th, offering players limited-time customization options.
Describing the new additions, promotional materials state: "Luna Snow brings the heat with her Disco Pop look - cool nerves, fearless rhythm, and a performance made for Times Square." Meanwhile, "Thor, as Boogie Bolt, answers the call, trading thunder for pure groove as lightning strikes to the beat."
This dual announcement of substantive anti-exploit measures and fresh cosmetic content demonstrates NetEase's commitment to maintaining both the competitive integrity and visual appeal of Marvel Rivals as the game continues to evolve.
