Sage Oracle Jet espresso machine review: divine coffee at a devilish price

The Sage Oracle Jet is an assisted espresso machine that promises third-wave specialty coffee at home, but with a price tag of around £1,700, it is not for the faint of heart. The machine uses fast-heating ThermoJet technology to heat up in seconds and features a 5-inch colour touchscreen that guides users through every step, making mistakes almost impossible.

The Oracle Jet offers 14 drink options, including flat white, latte, cappuccino, espresso, americano, cold brew, and even an espresso martini (alcohol not included). Users can customise each recipe to their taste and create separate profiles for different household members. However, unlike fully automatic machines, the Oracle Jet still requires the user to brew the espresso and steam the milk manually, though the process is streamlined.

Design touches include wheels underneath for easy movement, a 340g bean hopper that needs refilling every 15 coffees, and a 2.3-litre water tank that can be topped up via a chute. The machine comes with a stainless steel milk jug, a knock box, and cleaning tools. The internal water filter lasts about three months and costs around £15 to replace.

While the Oracle Jet is wonderfully approachable and makes excellent coffee, true baristas may find the level of assistance limiting. The machine automates the hard bits but leaves the fun parts—like clunking the portafilter and pouring milk—to the user. For those willing to pay the price, it delivers consistently good results with minimal effort.
