Apple's first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, went on sale in the UK today, with shoppers braving wet weather to secure the device. The book-style phone functions as a handset when closed and a tablet when opened, and was unveiled by Apple last month with prices starting at £1,999.
Reservation system smooths launch day
One shopper arrived at the Covent Garden Apple store at 7.30am expecting to queue, but found a reservation system in place that allowed him to secure an order for later pickup. In a post on X, he wrote: "Went to Apple at Battersea Power Station for 7:30, no queue, reservation system and secured my iPhone Duo for 10am."
Apple stores in the UK hold limited quantities of walk-in stock, available on a first-come, first-served basis. For those who miss out, online orders placed through the Apple website are stretching into January 2027 for delivery due to high demand.
New CEO unveils device
The iPhone Duo was unveiled by new CEO John Ternus a little over a week after he took charge of the tech giant in September. The device is available in two colours: black and white.
Tech director Paul Hayes from London was pictured holding his new iPhone Duo at the Apple store in Covent Garden. Staff welcomed customers into the store as the launch got underway.
