A TV journalist reporting on a fatal car crash in Poland accidentally captured another crash on live television. A girl riding her e-scooter behind him was sent flying into the air after being struck by a car.
TVP Info journalist Miłosz Sieliwończyk was reporting live from the scene in Kościerzyna, Poland, about a young boy who had been fatally crushed by a car. As he spoke, a girl in a purple jumper approached from behind. She was struck by another car turning into a side street and thrown into the air, hitting a window before rolling across the car's roof and falling to the ground.
Reporter's account of the incident
‘I heard a bang behind me and the cameraman screamed, “Oh Jesus!”’ Sieliwończyk said. ‘When I turned around, I saw a car driving away with a broken windshield and a child lying on the ground.’
The reporter instructed his cameraman to keep filming and zoomed in on the car's licence plate so they could report it to police. ‘We approached the girl,’ Sieliwończyk said. ‘She was unable to stand. I saw blood stains on the scooter. We called 112, and paramedics arrived within three minutes.’
Aftermath and police investigation
The injured 14-year-old asked to call her mother, who arrived a few minutes later riding a bicycle. She was taken to hospital for a check-up, and it is not thought her injuries are serious.
According to the TVP Info journalist, the person responsible for the accident returned to the scene a few minutes later. ‘He must have been in shock too, because he got out of the car and asked if something had happened,’ Sieliwończyk added. The police are investigating the collision.
