Content creator Kerry Whelpdale has shared a simple kitchen item that can clear streaks and limescale stains from shower screens and prevent them from forming if used regularly.
Shower screens, glass, and enclosures are vital for protecting bathrooms from water damage, but keeping them spotless can be a challenge. Hard water and grime cause limescale stains and streaks to appear, and scrubbing often leaves residue and a sense of defeat.
Baking paper as a cleaning tool
Whelpdale, posting on Instagram, showed that baking paper is the key to spotless shower screens. She captioned the video: “A hack that just keeps on giving shower after shower.”
She added: “If you thoroughly wipe baking paper on your glass shower screen, water will simply run off your glass, leaving no water marks.”
Why baking paper works
Baking paper is a moisture-resistant material coated with paraffin wax that naturally repels water. The waxy silicone coating creates an invisible protective layer that wards off water spots and fingerprints, making it effective at eliminating watermarks.
How to clean shower screens with baking paper
To use baking paper, crumple up a piece of the silicone-coated paper, “making sure to use the shiny side”, and rub it over the affected area.
Before doing that, remove any soap scum from the surface with a bathroom cleaner because the baking paper will not work if there is built-up soap scum. Continue until the shower screen looks completely clean.
