Couples Sell Wedding Tickets to Strangers via New App

A new app called Invitin allows couples to sell tickets to their wedding to strangers, helping to cover costs while giving attendees a chance to socialise. Founder Katia Lekarski started the platform after her daughter asked why they weren't invited to more weddings.

Lekarski told The Guardian that the idea came when she rented her house in south-eastern France to people attending a wedding. She thought: 'What if we could pay for tickets to a wedding and help the couple getting married in that way?'

Invitin takes a commission, with typically five to ten paid strangers attending each ceremony. Tickets cost an average of €100 to €150 per guest, though prices can vary. Guests must follow strict rules, including adhering to the dress code, arriving on time, drinking in moderation, and not sharing photos without permission.

Couples are not required to interact with paying guests. Lekarski explained: 'A wedding has its own ecosystem where guests get chatting to each other of their own accord.'

Parisian couple Jennifer and Paulo invited strangers to their wedding, which already had 95 family and friends attending. Jennifer said: 'It’s not only about the money... it’s also because we thought it could be fun and we’re extroverted and open to sharing things.'
