Netflix has just dropped the first two episodes of a Korean spy thriller that is already climbing the streaming platform's top 10 TV shows ranking. Agent Kim Reactivated centres on the meek office worker Mr Kim (So Ji-sub), who is trying to manage his rebellious teenager Kim Min-ji (Seo Su-min) after the loss of his wife. The father-daughter duo are cast as opposites from the start: Mr Kim apologises to Min-ji's school after she takes on a trio of bullies, while she insists there is nothing to apologise for.
Then Min-ji goes missing, and a grim trail of breadcrumbs points to a kidnapping, forcing Mr Kim to reveal who he really is. This supposedly mild 9-to-5er is actually a former black-ops spy. He sheds his unassuming skin to become Agent Kim, all in the hunt to find who took his daughter.
Adaptation of Webtoon Manager Kim
Adapted from the webtoon Manager Kim, the first episodes dropped over the weekend in a weekly release schedule, which is unusual for Netflix. Written by Nam Dae-joong and directed by Yi Seung-young and Lee So-eun, it will be easy for viewers to catch up before the third episode drops this coming Friday and the fourth the following Saturday.
Positive Reception and IMDb Rating
The show currently holds an 8.3 rating out of 10 on IMDb, with fans praising its pacing and action. @CharanS-378 said the show has them 'already hooked', adding that the wait for episodes is going to be 'tough'. They continued: 'The story starts on a strong note, setting up an intriguing plot with excellent pacing, suspense, and enough mystery to keep you wanting the next episode immediately. It doesn't waste time and gets you invested right from the beginning. The action sequences are well-executed, the tension is constant, and the lead character has a commanding screen presence that makes every scene engaging.'
Chirag said in their IMDb review: 'If you've been waiting for a faithful, high-budget webtoon adaptation that doesn't tone down the violence or the hype, this is the holy grail.'
