Vodafone challenged Dina Asher-Smith, the fastest British woman in history, to race its new super-fast mobile plan, Vodafone SuperMobile, in an ultimate speed test. The plan downloaded her 150-track training playlist in 21.2 seconds, beating her British record time of 21.88 seconds over 200m.
SuperMobile beats sprint record
For Vodafone SuperMobile to beat Dina's record time, it would need to download nearly 7 songs every second. Donning her spikes and taking to the track, Dina went head-to-head with SuperMobile, putting it through its paces in a race against the clock. It was close: SuperMobile downloaded Dina's 150-track playlist in just 21.2 seconds. That's around nine hours of music - enough music to soundtrack an entire flight to Mumbai or Barbados, or a full day at work and the commute home.
Dina Asher-Smith said: "As a sprinter, every second counts, so I was genuinely impressed that Vodafone SuperMobile managed to beat me! Speed is obviously a huge part of my life, both on and off the track, and music plays a big role in my training and getting me ready to run fast. Whether I'm downloading a playlist or sharing training videos on the go, I want my mobile plan to keep up."
Nation's frustration with slow speeds
Slow smartphone speeds are the biggest bugbear for 45% of the nation, with Brits spending an average of 29 hours and 35 minutes a year waiting for things to load, download, or connect on their phones, according to new research from Vodafone. Super fast speeds aren't just in demand for Olympians, though, as 63% of the nation say they value fast, reliable connectivity more than ever. Whether for connecting with friends and family (32%), entertainment such as streaming TV, films and music (30%), staying connected on the go (25%) or working or studying from home (15%).
The research from Vodafone also shows just how important fast, reliable connectivity is in our day-to-day lives. More than a quarter of Brits (26%) say they get frustrated when payments won't process, buffering maps leave them lost (21%), videos won't play (19%) and playlists won't download (10%) thanks to subpar connection. And those precious seconds can mean missing out, with two in five (40%) saying they have lost out on something important because their connection was too slow, including 14% who have missed out on online shopping deals or items selling out, food delivery slots (11%), appointments (10%) and even festival tickets (9%).
