The UEFA Conference League draw will take place on Friday, August 28 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. It will follow immediately after the Europa League draw, which is scheduled to begin at 12pm.
How the draw works
Teams are seeded into six pots and an automated system will randomly draw six unique opponents for each participating club. This digital system will also determine which three matches are played at home and which three are away, while strictly ensuring no team is drawn against an opponent from their own country.
Format of the competition
The tournament starts with a 36-team league phase. The top eight teams in the standings after six games will automatically progress to the round of 16, while those finishing between ninth and 24th will contest a knockout play-off round before the knockouts begin.
English and Scottish clubs in the draw
Premier League fans will have their eyes firmly fixed on Brighton, who are looking to secure their place in the league phase of the competition. The Seagulls were drawn into a tricky play-off tie against Norwegian side Tromso to guarantee their place. If Brighton qualify on Thursday, they will be the sole English representatives in the competition.
The Scottish representation in this year's tournament could be substantial, with four different teams intertwined in the qualifying stages. Hearts are already through to the main draw after defeating Rapid Wien on penalties, having ended 4-4 on aggregate, while Rangers, Hibernian and Motherwell could join them.
Play-off standings
Brighton host Tromso tonight following their goalless draw in Norway last week. Rangers have a 1-0 advantage as they head to Jablonec, Hibs are level with Gent ahead of their second leg at Easter Road, while Motherwell lost 3-1 to Freiburg in their first leg at home.
