After a 28-year absence, Scotland are back at the World Cup. The Tartan Army are heading to North America under the experienced watch of Steve Clarke, who has guided them to back-to-back European Championships. However, the World Cup is a different beast entirely - especially given this will be their first appearance in the 21st Century.
The Scots have never made it past the group stage in their previous eight appearances - even if Ally MacLeod had believed his side would lift the trophy back in 1978. Once again, it's a tricky draw for Scotland - with five-time winners Brazil and 2022 semi-finalists Morocco in Group C. Here's everything you need to know about Scotland's group stage fixtures.
When are Scotland's World Cup games?
- Sunday, June 14: Scotland vs Haiti (2:00am BST) - BBC One
- Tuesday, June 23: Scotland vs Morocco (11:00pm BST) - ITV1
- Saturday, June 27: Scotland vs Brazil (11:00pm BST) - BBC One
Scotland's first game is their easiest on paper, with a clash against Haiti. That match against the 83rd-ranked side also kicks off locally late on a Saturday night, which could help in terms of the conditions. Things get a little trickier after that.
Four years ago, Morocco made history by becoming the first African semi-finalists in World Cup history. Now, they arrive in North America as dark horses - being currently ranked eighth in the world. Then, it's the turn of five-time champions Brazil. The two sides actually met in the group stages back in 1998, with Brazil winning 2-1.
