Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho could finally be closing in on a new club, with Spanish side Getafe showing an interest. Sancho is still without a club after leaving United at the end of his contract in the summer.
He was linked with a move to Russian side Krasnodar, but the club reportedly turned down the chance after being offered the former England international. He has also been linked with a move to Brazil and a return to Borussia Dortmund.
Getafe submit official offer
But it now seems that it’s Getafe who are pushing to get a deal done. Mundo Deportivo reports the club’s interest but outlines how Sancho’s salary will be the ‘main problem’. Fabrizio Romano claims that Getafe have submitted an ‘official offer’ to Sancho to try and sign him on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old has interest from clubs in the Middle East, but the La Liga side want to ‘repeat’ a similar deal which saw them sign another former United man in Mason Greenwood. Getafe have already completed the signing of one big-name free agent, with Real Madrid legend Dani Carvajal joining. He had been without a club since his contract at the Bernabeu expired in June.
Injury exemption and Sancho's career path
A long-term injury to forward Juanmi means that Getafe can use a long-term injury exemption available in La Liga to register a replacement and not go over their allowed salary limit.
Sancho came up through Manchester City’s youth system before joining Borussia Dortmund as a youngster in 2017. After impressing in Germany, he moved to United in 2021.
Sancho played 83 times for United, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists. He had loan spells with Dortmund (January 2024), at Chelsea (2024/25) and last year with Aston Villa, before leaving United on a free transfer in the summer.
Dortmund ruled out
He was linked with a third spell with Dortmund, but manager Nico Kovac appeared to put an end to the possibility last month. "I think we had a really good transfer summer," he said. "We're very well positioned. The squad is already very large. We have 26 outfield players, many of them young."
On the subject of a potential move for Sancho, he added: "Therefore, we don't need to concern ourselves with that."
