There is still time to book a pumpkin picking session near Cardiff before Halloween, which this year falls on Saturday, October 31. Several pumpkin patches in and around the city are welcoming visitors for the spooky season, offering orange jack-o-lantern picks, colourful gourds and squashes, plus seasonal activities.
Where to pick pumpkins near Cardiff
Visitors are advised to wear wellies as patches are full of seasonal picks, and many venues also put on spooky activities. For those seeking something more terrifying, grown-up scare events are also available.
Forage's PYO Pumpkins at Penllyn Estate in Cowbridge is back, with thousands of homegrown pumpkins to choose from. The farm has planted over 25 types of pumpkin, including white, blue and warty varieties. Alongside picking, there are tractor rides, a maize maze, photo opportunities, a rodeo-style pumpkin ride and a pumpkin catapult with three goes at hitting ghouls. Alpacas and piglets are also on site. Daytime tickets cost £10 per car.
Farm parks and scare events
Cefn Mably Farm Park in Cardiff runs autumn fun until October 31, including an autumn quiz and a pumpkin patch with pumpkins of various sizes and prices every day. During half term there are fancy dress competitions, face painting, a soft play centre, a petting zoo, a railway trip and a mini golf adventure.
Clearwell Farm in Newport, between Cardiff and Newport, features a pumpkin village with a windmill, pumpkin cottages and a patch during the daytime, plus an evening session called Harvest of Horror. The interactive scare event includes live actors, a haunting pumpkin village, three scare zones and immersive sound, lighting and effects. Visitors can enjoy Halloween-inspired drinks and hot food at the farm's bar and café.

Colliers Adventure Farm in Treharris offers daytime and twilight pumpkin picking, including sessions with dogs. Activities include a spooky woodland walk, marshmallow tasting and a pumpkin carving tent. Pumpkin picking starts weekends from October 10 and runs all week at half term.
