Newcastle Stars Praise Matthias Jaissle Amid 'Turbulence'

Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy has admitted there has been 'more turbulence' than anybody at the club would have liked over the last couple of seasons.

But the 31-year-old insists 'he cannot speak highly enough' of the work new head coach Matthias Jaissle is doing on the training ground as he gets to grips with the Newcastle squad.

Jaissle's Early Impact

Jaissle succeeded Eddie Howe as the Magpies' head coach just over two weeks ago and is now preparing his side for his first Premier League game as a manager this weekend when Liverpool make the trip to St James' Park.

The German has won one, drawn one and lost two of his four games in charge over pre-season but he has made a positive impression on Newcastle's players and Murphy, in particular, has been impressed by the new man's methods.

Murphy's Praise for New Methods

"There's been more turbulence than any of us would have liked over the last couple of seasons, but it's now about regaining stability and building towards a new future, and a better future," Murphy told the official Newcastle United programme.

"It's been awesome. Their detail is very exciting. They have the philosophy - which is already ingrained in the Newcastle DNA - of intensity, and we've seen that."

"[There is] new detail to absorb and take on board but everyone's really enjoying it; fresh ideas, tweaks in some of the things that we're doing. That really complements that blend that we have in the squad and the more we work under him, the more I think the ideas will come into fruition."

"So far, I can't speak highly enough of the head coach and the support staff. They have got a wonderful temperament, they are very open and honest, very approachable, and again, they have made it a great environment to learn."

"I have been really impressed with his delivery and his instructions. It is clear, there's no grey areas."

Schar Also Impressed

Newcastle defender Fabian Schar has also been impressed with Jaissle and his methods, and used an interview in his native Switzerland to also sing his praises.

"He’s full of energy and radiates enthusiasm," Schar told Blick. "He’s very interactive with us players, seeking dialogue and exchange with us. He demands high intensity and leads by example. My impression of him has been consistently positive."
